Equinor has secured regulatory approvals to extend the operating life of Tordis and Vigdis fields located in the Norwegian part of North Sea.

The company received the green-light from the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD) to use the facilities on the two fields beyond their approved lifetime.

The original consent for operations on the Tordis field was due to expire in December 2019. It has now been extended to 31 December 2036. The consent to use the facilities at Vigdis was extended from March 2024 to 31 December 2040.

Both the extended permissions increase the operating life of the two North Sea fields by a combined total of 34 years.

NPD Northern North Sea assistant director of development and operations Arvid Østhus said: “Utilisation of the facilities on Tordis and Vigdis beyond the original lifetime will contribute to increase value creation on the Norwegian shelf, and that’s good resource management.”

Equinor is the operator of both fields. The Tordis and Vigdis fields are situated in production licence 089 in the Tampen area.

Tordis, which commenced production in 1994, was developed with a central subsea manifold tied to the Gullfaks C facility situated nearby. In 2007, a subsea multiphase pump was installed to boost production from the field.

Vigdis features seven subsea templates and two satellite wells tied to the Snorre A facility. It began production in 1997. A subsea multiphase pump is scheduled to be deployed at the field in 2020.
