Equinor, along with its licence partners, has made oil and gas discovery in the Swisher prospect near the Fram field in the North Sea offshore Norway.

Petoro and Wellesley Petroleum are Equinor’s licence partners at the discovery.

Wells 35/11-24 S, 35/11-24 A and 35/11-24 B were drilled by the West Hercules drilling rig at about 7km west of the Fram field and 130km north-west of Bergen.

Located about 20km north of Toll field in the north part of the North Sea, the Fram field lies at a depth of about 350m.

The recoverable resources at the Swisher prospect are estimated to be in the range of two million to six million standard cubic metres (MSm³) of oil equivalent, corresponding to 13 million barrels of oil equivalent (Mboe) to 38 Mboe.

According to Equinor, the objective of the wells was to prove petroleum in Upper Jurassic reservoir rocks (Heather Formation sandstones).

Equinor Norway exploration senior vice-president Nick Ashton said: “We are working continuously on keeping an exploration portfolio that forms the basis for high-value creation and in addition can be produced with a low carbon footprint. This discovery contributes to reaching this goal.

“This strongly indicates that it is still possible to prove new and profitable resources that can utilise existing infrastructure on the NCS.”

West Hercules drilling rig will proceed with drilling of 6407/1-8 S well in the Apollonia prospect in PL263 D in the Norwegian Sea.

In May, the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD) reported that Equinor concluded the drilling of wildcat well 35/10-6 near the Fram field.
