Norwegian Energy Company (Noreco) has announced the postponement of the first production from the Tyra Redevelopment project in the Danish part of the North Sea.

Due to the ongoing novel coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic, the production has been delayed from 2022 to Q2-2023.

Tyra Redevelopment project is owned by Danish Underground Consortium (DUC). The DUC is a partnership between the Total (43.2%), Noreco (36.8%) and Nordsøfonden (20%).

In a press statement, Noreco stated: “Due to Covid-19, local governmental imposed restrictions at the fabrication yards have impacted the schedule of the new Tyra topsides, including through the global supply chain delivering key components for the topsides.

“As a direct consequence of this impact the installation of the four new topsides is rescheduled from 2021 to a 2022 installation-window.”

The Tyra field consists of Tyra East and Tyra West production centres, which are linked to five unmanned satellite fields, Tyra Southeast, Harald, Valdemar, Svend and Roar.

The redevelopment is being carried out due to seabed subsidence at the Tyra complex. Since 1980, the seabed has subsided by more than 5m reducing the air gap between the sea level and the bottom of the platforms.

To overcome this situation, Total has committed to replacing the wellhead platforms with the installation of new and elevated topsides supported by 13m high jacket extensions. Total is investing around $3.3bn in the redevelopment, which is expected to extend the life of the Tyra field.

In November last year, Total Exploration and Production (E&P) Denmark awarded a contract to Emerson for Tyra gas field redevelopment project.
