Singapore-headquartered FTAI Ocean has awarded UK-based offshore technology company Osbit a contract to develop a new well intervention tower system.

Osbit will design and construct the well intervention system for FTAI Ocean’s M/V Pride, a DP3 vessel. The ship’s current well intervention configuration uses a tower structure and is equipped with a subsea riser-less package and topside handling systems.

Osbit’s Smart Tower System facilitates integrated riser-less and riser-based well intervention operations, in water depths up to 1,500 metres. It includes a series of innovations to improve operational safety, flexibility, and accessibility and combines this with modular technology already used by Osbit.

According to Osbit, the tower’s small footprint optimises deck space for more effective equipment storage, and its Completion Workover Riser (CWOR) racking system improves deck safety by reducing the need to access the intervention floor and to handle CWOR joints.

Osbit’s system integrates the existing vessel crane into the full deployment system with up to 250 tonne active heave compensated capacity.

The Smart Tower System will use Osbit’s Integrated Logistics Support control system technology, which offers data insight and performance analysis and uses a control cabin that interfaces with the vessel’s safety systems, crane, and CCTV.

Osbit managing director Brendon Hayward said: “Osbit’s Smart Tower System represents our continued commitment to reducing the risk and cost profile of projects for our clients enabling increased safety and greater operational time offshore.”

Osbit has previously provided technology for well intervention in the offshore industry, including tension frames, maintenance towers, and guide-wire handling equipment.

Jon Attenburrow, managing director at FTAI Ocean said: “We look forward to working with Osbit to develop the intervention tower and transform the M/V Pride into a world-class well intervention vessel.”
