Floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel operator BW Offshore has confirmed that two workers have died following an incident on board its ‘Espoir Ivoirien’ FPSO.

The FPSO was operating on the Espoir field offshore the Ivory Coast during the time of the incident, which occurred at 1:30pm local time.

The Espoir field lies in Ivory Coast block CI-26, 19km offshore south of Jacqueville, and 60km south-west of Abidjan.

Espoir Ivoirien FPSO is operated by BW Offshore for natural gas exploration and production company CNR International.

According to BW Offshore, the incident was caused due to a leakage of hydrocarbons into the tank where the FPSO has been in operation.

Currently, production has been closed and the leak has been contained within the cargo tank, ‘with all personnel accounted for’.
