Iranian Offshore Oil Company (IOOC) has reportedly started drilling and repairing of oil wells at the Foruzan Joint Oil Field to boost oil extraction capacity.

Located 100km South-East of Khark Island in the Persian Gulf region, the joint Forouzan field is planned to undergo a maintenance and production capacity revamp project.

The subterranean section of this work includes 12 new wells, 11 wells to be repaired, and three re-entry wells.

The surface section includes three sea pipelines, fabrication and erection of two new platforms and cabling of four fibre optics.

Upon completion of the project, approximately 12,000 barrels per day is expected to be added to the field’s production, reported Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA).

IOOC chief executive director Alireza Salmanzadeh was quoted by IRNA news agency as saying: “Upon the installation of the first drilling rig in the Forouzan joint field after many years, drilling and repairing wells began with the goal of increasing oil production.”

The repairing and drilling of the wells is being carried out using the newly installed rig with an aim to boost the field’s production to 23,000 barrels per day.

Salmanzadeh said that the Forouzan joint oilfield development project is one of the most important ones underway by the NIOC due to its significance in increasing production levels.

Earlier, Salmanzadeh had said that Iran had installed a giant oil drilling platform at Forouzan Oilfield.

IOOC and an Iranian consortium is responsible for undertaking the maintenance and revamping of the production capacity of the field.
