Oil and gas production company Jadestone Energy has completed the installation of replacement subsea umbilical cables at the Montara complex, offshore Australia.

The umbilical cables, which play a crucial part of the control system of the Montara complex subsea wells, provide electrical power and control signals to the subsea well-heads. They are also expected to provide reliable operations for the remaining life of the field.

The Montara complex was identified by the previous operator PTTEP as a high priority, but the work on the project was delayed until operatorship was transferred. The company’s operating and engineering crew was able to complete the project scope on budget.

Jadestone noted that the replacement umbilical cables were installed at Montara using the DOF Subsea vessel Skandi Hercules, which was mobilised in Singapore last month and recently finished work infield at the complex.

Jadestone Energy president and CEO Paul Blakeley said: “I’m pleased to have completed this major capital project as the operator of Montara, safely, and on budget.

“Early on, we recognised the need to replace the control link to the Montara subsea wells, and this was done as soon as possible, following acceptance of Jadestone’s safety case for Montara.
