KBR’s UK operating subsidiary has secured a contract from BP to provide front-end engineering design (FEED) services for the first phase of the Tortue field hub / terminal development located offshore Senegal and Mauritania.

The parties have included a provision in the agreement to enable transition of the contract to an engineering, procurement and construction management (EPCM) contract in future.

The scope of the contract involves management of the quarters and utilities (QU) including telecoms systems FEED.

Under the agreement, KBR will provide auxiliary services such as system engineering, interface oversight, technology planning, support and verification of the hub / terminal for the Tortue field.

Set to be undertaken up to the end of this year, the FEED work will support the final investment decision (FID).

The contract comes after KBR was awarded the Pre-FEED contract for the Tortue field in August this year.

In February, BP head of oil and gas production Bernard Looney said in a statement: “This is an important milestone for this innovative gas project which reflects the strong, cooperative partnership between Mauritania and Senegal.”

In a separate agreement, KBR received a concept definition engineering contract for two gas floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) facilities for the proposed Browse to North West Shelf Development off the coast of Western Australia.

The contract was awarded by Woodside Energy, which is an operator of the Browse joint venture (JV), to define all elements of the hull and topsides of two FPSOs for remote environment operations.
