UAE-based engineering and contracting company Lamprell and Akselos have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for digital projects.

The companies will integrate Akselos’ finite element solutions with Lamprell’s engineering, procurement, construction and installation (EPCI) capabilities. They will also include Lamprell’s asset integrity digital solutions.

Lamprell will offer the combined solution to its oil, gas and renewables customers.

This collaboration aims to cater to the needs of clients in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. It will also cater to projects managed by Lamprell globally.

Lamprell CEO Christopher McDonald said: “Asset integrity is critical to the energy industry and what we can offer with Akselos through their Digital Twin capability will provide a level of predictability that is state-of-the-art.

“Further, this collaboration complements our previously announced partnership with Injazat, (wholly owned by Mubadala Investment Company), where we are also working on a portfolio of technology-enabled digital ventures to create value for target customers, primarily in the MENA region.”

Founded as an MIT start-up in 2012, Akselos has five international hubs. The company developed its core technology over 15 years in in the MIT mechanical engineering lab.

Akselos helps organisations protect large and complex assets. It does this through real-time structural digital twins called ‘Digital Guardians’. This structural analysis tool integrates sensor data.

Akselos CEO Thomas Leurent said: “Lamprell’s deep expertise in offshore industries and its commitment to accelerating the energy transition makes the company an ideal partner for Akselos.

“Our patented technology is based on a mathematical breakthrough that has led to near real time simulations of limitless scale, something far more sophisticated than a conventional digital twin.”

In November, Lamprell and Injazat signed a MoU to partner on energy sector digitisation targeting customers in the MENA region.
