Maersk Supply Service has secured a contract to supply two of its new-build vessels for the stage two drilling programme of Chevron Australia’s Gorgon project.

Located 60km off the northwest coast of Western Australia, the Gorgon Project on Barrow Island has a total production capacity of 2.6 billion cubic feet of natural gas and 20,000 barrels of condensate a day.

Under the terms of the contract, the Maersk Mariner and Maersk Master anchor handling tug supply vessels will provide towing, anchor handling, supply, and WROV services for the programme starting the second quarter of this year.

“Designed to minimise fuel consumption, Maersk Mariner and Maersk Master are the first two vessels of the company’s Starfish newbuilding series.”

Maersk Supply Service head of commercial Asia Pacific said: “We are proud to have the opportunity to utilise the advanced capabilities of these new vessels to deliver a superior service and contribute to the offshore development of this important project for the region.”

Operational since September 2017 and March 2018, the respective Maersk Mariner and Maersk Master vessels will remain in Western Australia until the contract starts.

Local crews will operate them throughout the programme. The vessels will be supported from Maersk Supply Service’s Perth shore base.

Designed to minimise fuel consumption, Maersk Mariner and Maersk Master are the first two vessels of the company’s Starfish newbuilding series.

Designed to increase reliability and onboard safety, they were delivered in 2017, following which three more vessels of the series have joined the fleet.

The final vessel is scheduled for delivery early this year.
