Aker BP has awarded a two-well contract extension to Danish rig operator Maersk for its Integrator ultra-harsh environment jack-up rig.

The jack-up will move to the Ivar Aasen field offshore Norway and begin works in October this year.

The $25.5m contract excludes a potential performance bonus and comes with a further one-well option. It has an expected performance period of about 93 days.

According to Aker BP, the rig contract forms part of its alliance agreement with Maersk Drilling and service provider Halliburton. It signed this agreement in 2017.

Maersk Drilling COO Morten Kelstrup said: “We are thrilled to be able to firm up activities for Maersk Integrator in 2020 by continuing to work closely together with Aker BP in an alliance which is enabling new ways of working across the value chain.

“The alliance is enhancing efficiency through increased coordination and involvement, and we are starting to see the first tangible results of this.

Maersk specifically designed the Integrator for operations in the North Sea. Its current operations take place in the Ula field offshore Norway. The company expects to complete the work at the site by July.

It will begin the drilling operation on the Tambar field in September. Before this, the Integrator will undergo upgrades to turn it into a hybrid, low-emission rig.

In September 2018, Maersk Drilling initially signed a one-year contract to deploy the Integrator for Aker BP.
