Denmark-based drilling rig operator Maersk Drilling has secured a one-well contract for the ultra-harsh environment jack-up rig Maersk Interceptor.

The contract has been awarded by Norwegian unit of Hungarian oil and gas firm MOL Norge for exploration drilling on production licence PL617 in the Southern North Sea.

Expected to commence in August 2020, the contract is estimated to last for 60 days.

PL617 is operated by MOL Norge, alongside partners Wintershall Dea and OMV Norge. MOL holds a 70% ownership in the production licence.

Maersk Drilling noted that the contract is estimated at $16.5m.

Recently, Maersk Drilling won a contract extension for the CJ70 XLE Maersk Integrator from Aker BP to spud a well at the Tambar field in the southern North Sea.

The Maersk Interceptor drilling facility is currently drilling development wells in PL 001 B in Ivar Aasen field in the North Sea, operated by Aker BP.
