Denmark-based offshore drilling contractor Maersk Drilling has secured a three-well contract from South Korean exploration and production company POSCO International.

The contract represents the deployment of Maersk’s seventh-generation drillship Maersk Viking at Posco’s three-well campaign offshore Myanmar.

Delivered in 2013, Maersk Viking is an ultra-deepwater drillship. It has completed its latest campaign in Ghana in August.

According to the company, the Ghana campaign included a well drilled at an ultra-deepwater depth of approximately 10,125ft.

The latest contract is valued at $33m, which also includes the mobilisation fee.

Maersk Drilling noted that an additional one-well option is also included in the contract.

Expected to commence by the end of this year, the contract is estimated to run for a period of 154 days.

“This campaign will enable us to showcase the nimbleness of our deepwater fleet, including the ability to move our floaters from one region to another and quickly start up new operations. We look forward to demonstrating the capabilities of our seventh-generation drillships in the Asian-Pacific market.”

This April, the company secured a $300m contract for its ultra-deepwater semi-submersible Mærsk Deliverer to carry out drilling work at the Ichthys gas and condensate field in the Browse Basin offshore Western Australia.

In May, Maersk Drilling announced its plans to convert the Maersk Intrepid platform into the first hybrid, low-emission offshore rig.
