Man Energy Solutions has secured a contract from Chevron Australia to support the front-end engineering and design (FEED) study of a subsea compression solution for the Jansz-Io field.

Operated by Chevron, the Jansz-Io gas field is located around 200km off the Australian north-west coast at a water depth of about 1,350m.

It forms part of the Gorgon natural gas project which includes a liquefied natural gas (LNG) facility that produces 15.6 million metric tonnes of LNG annually. The project also consists of a domestic natural gas plant.

Man Energy Solutions CEO Uwe Lauber said: “We are very proud to work with our alliance partner Aker Solutions on the Jansz-Io field development project for Chevron Australia.

“Thanks to this project, we will be able to prove once again the unrivaled value and reliability of our groundbreaking subsea compression solution.”

Within the FEED, Man Energy will be responsible for the technology of the subsea compressors for maintaining output as reservoir pressure drops over time. Subsea compression solutions are capable of improving the recovery of the gas in an effective way with a smaller environmental footprint.

Man Energy Solutions Sales Turbo Solutions head Alexandre de Rougemont said: “We are very excited that Chevron Australia has chosen our subsea compression solution for this technologically highly demanding project.”

The latest award is part of an alliance with Aker Solutions, which secured a master contract for the subsea compression system this March.

Aker was responsible for FEED of a subsea compression station that will boost gas recovery from the Jansz-Io field. The FEED work also included an unmanned power and control floater, as well as overall field system engineering services.
