McDermott International has secured a contract to provide subsea umbilicals, risers and flowlines (SURF) for the Ruby Project in offshore Trinidad and Tobago.

Australian firm BHP awarded the contract, which also includes transportation and installation (T&I) services.

McDermott will also undertake pre-commissioning of one jacket and topsides for the project.

The Ruby field lies in Block 3(a) development area of Trinidad and Tobago, 45km off the north-eastern coast of Trinidad.

McDermott International North, Central and South America senior vice-president Mark Coscio said: “We are pleased to support BHP in this new contract that continues to build on our successful track record in Trinidad.

“The combination of heavy lift and pipelay capabilities of McDermott’s Derrick Lay Vessel (DLV) 2000 are best suited for this project as it can efficiently transport and install both the flowlines and platform.”

It will perform the engineering and project management in Houston with support from the company’s Mexico City office.

McDermott’s DLV 2000, a derrick lay vessel, will transport and install the flowlines and platform at Ruby field.

The company values the contract between $50m and $250m.

It will begin work for the project immediately and expects to complete it in August this year.

McDermott said that it will report this contract under the backlog of its fourth quarter of last year.

In August, BHP approved a $283m investment in developing the Ruby project, bringing the total investment in the project to nearly $500m, including pre-commitment capital.
