Wood Group has secured two separate contracts for BP's Mad Dog 2 project in the Gulf of Mexico to provide engineering services to enhance deepwater production.

Samsung Heavy Industries has contracted Wood Group to provide detailed engineering and procurement services for the topsides for BP’s Mad Dog Phase 2 floating production unit.

Wood Group received this $80m contract after accomplishing interim agreement period (IAP) early work in December last year that was estimated to be $4.5m.

Furthermore, Wood Group’s Specialist Technical Solutions (STS) business has received a $4.89m contract for subsea engineering and project management services to the Mad Dog 2 project.

This contract forms a part of the recently signed global services agreement with BP.

The second contract requires Wood Group to provide gas lift system interface design, geospatial information system support, subsea controls engineering and geotechnical engineering support services for the project.

Wood Group chief executive Robin Watson said: "Wood Group’s strong relationships with BP and Samsung and proven performance in deepwater projects are the foundations of our partnership in continuing deepwater work in the Gulf of Mexico."

"Mad Dog Phase 2 will have a new floating production platform with the capacity to produce up to 140,000bpd gross."

The Mad Dog 2 is the second platform that Wood Group designed for BP in the Gulf of Mexico Mad Dog field.

Mad Dog Phase 2 is located in the deepwater Green Canyon area, which will have a new floating production platform with the capacity to produce up to 140,000bpd gross, reported Oedigital.com.

Situated around 4,500ft under water, this Mad Dog Phase 2 is a southern and south-western extension of the existing Mad Dog field approximately 190 miles from New Orleans.

Earlier, Wood Group decided to acquire Amec Foster Wheeler, its rival in the UK energy services sector.
