Wood Group PSN (WGPSN) has received an A$10m ($10.5m) contract to build a computerised maintenance management system for the Prelude floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) facility located off the coast of Western Australia.
The firm said that two of its units, ODL business and Wood Group Integrity Management (WGIM), will jointly carry out the integrated service contract that will be delivered to Shell by contract teams in Perth, Australia, and Aberdeen, UK.
Matt Gavin, WGPSN Australia regional director, said that the proposed contract demonstrates Shell’s confidence levels in the company.
”Wood Group PSN has a long partnership history with Shell globally, providing operations and technical support through integrated brownfield and engineering service contracts in other regions including the UK North Sea, Asia and the United States of America,” Gavin added.
The new system is expected to optimise the maintenance, reliability and productivity of the world’s first FLNG development, claims Wood Group.
The technology also allows Shell to access offshore gas fields, which are either costly or difficult to develop, besides providing it with data, reporting tools and strategies needed to implement asset maintenance and inspection plans.
Shell uses the floating facility to shrink the volume of natural gas produced at the field by 600 times and chill it to -162° Celsius, so it can be shipped to customers in other countries.
