Hydrocarbon exploration firm Noble Energy has contracted drilling rig operator Maersk Drilling’s seventh-generation drillship Maersk Valiant to work offshore Colombia.

Maersk Drilling said that Noble Energy has employed the drillship for a one-well campaign. They expect the work under the contract to begin in the third quarter of this year.

Noble Energy values the contract at $18.2m and expects it to last for a period of 65 days. It said that the contract also includes mobilisation and demobilisation fees.

Maersk Drilling COO Morten Kelstrup said: “We are very happy to be going back to Colombia for this contract which adds further visibility for our floater fleet.

“We look forward to helping Noble Energy achieve their goals by utilising the Maersk Valiant’s integrated Managed Pressure Drilling capability which will be key to the success of this project.”

The high-specification Maersk Valient drillship has integrated managed pressure drilling (MPD) capability. Maersk Drilling built the ultra-deepwater drillship in 2013.

The drillship is currently mobilising for a drilling campaign for Repsol Exploración. It will operate in Mexico’s two-well project in Block 10 and 29 offshore Mexico in the Gulf of Mexico.

Comprising a DUAL pipe handling system with offline stand building capabilities, Maersk Valiant is capable of accommodating 230 personnel.

Last month, Maersk Drilling signed agreements with oil field services providers Halliburton and Petrofac to partner on an exploration drilling programme.

In November last year, Maersk Drilling secured a one-well contract for the ultra-harsh environment jack-up rig Maersk Interceptor.
