Norwegian oil production firm OKEA has resumed production from the Draugen field in the Norwegian Sea following a four-week turnaround.

The maintenance programme started on 23 June and ended on 20 July, two days ahead of the original schedule.

During the maintenance campaign, a total of 169 people were on board the Draugen platform, with 89 on dayshift and the remaining staff on nightshift, all following strict Covid-19 measures.

Operated by OKEA with a 44.56% working interest, the field lies 250m deep in water. Other partners in the field include Petoro (47.88%) and Neptune Energy (7.56%).

The Draugen field lies in block 6407/9 in the Haltenbanken area which is situated about 140km from Kristiansund, Norway. It lies in production licence PL093.

OKEA Operations senior vice-president Tor Bjerkestrand said: “Large parts of the offshore organisation have been onboard for a three-week period. Some have started the work period one week ahead of normal schedule, some have extended their work period after normal work schedule, adjusting their summer vacation to meet the turnarounds needs.”

Draugen maintenance activities were completed to ensure that the platform is performed at its best over the next two-three years, until the start of the next turnaround.

The current maintenance campaign included replacement of corroded piping and valves in hydrocarbon services, preparations for Draugen gas import, change out of subsea control system, as well as inspection of corroded X-mas trees.

Adjustment of equipment to optimise reductions in productions, installation of x-line for G-cyclones, and testing of emergency shutdown functions were also included in the maintenance programme.

In May this year, OKEA announced that it had to cut production from its Draugen field, due to restrictions imposed by the Norwegian Government in response to low oil prices as a result of Covid-19 outbreak.

In March, OKEA confirmed its Yme redevelopment project is scheduled to deliver first oil in the latter half of 2020. The project is located in the Egersund Basin, 100km off the coast in the Norwegian area of the North Sea.
