Petrobras has awarded three contracts to Solstad, Oceanpact and Fugro to provide remotely operated vehicle (ROV) services for subsea activities in the Brazilian waters.

The contracts will run for three years with one-year extension options.

Fugro will supply five ‘work class’ ROVs, each equipped with tooling and survey spreads designed for deployment in water depths of 3,000m.

One ROV spread will be installed on Solstad’s anchor handler/tug supply vessel (AHTS) ‘Far Statesman’, supporting anchor handling and other subsea activities.

The remaining spreads will be deployed in pairs on two Oceanpact-operated vessels to perform inspection, repair and maintenance (IRM) work.

Fugro said that all ROV services are available to Petrobras around-the-clock.

Fugro Brazil country manager Rogerio Carvalho said: “These new contracts will nearly double Fugro’s IRM capacity in Brazil, helping us capture the increase in demand for these services by Petrobras.

“The associated mobilisation plans with our vessel partners will be challenging amid the concerns caused by the Covid-19 pandemic but, with proven protocols in place, we look forward to confirming Fugro’s leading position as a supplier of ROV services in the region.”

Earlier this month, Fugro performed a full remote inspection of an oil and gas platform in the UK waters. This inspection, which the company claims is a first for the UK sector, has been conducted using a ROV and Fugro’s remote operations centre in Aberdeen.
