Petrobras and its partners of the BM-S-11 Consortium have started oil and natural gas production at the Lula North deepwater project in the pre-salt of the Santos Basin, Brazil.

Located at 260km off the Rio de Janeiro coast, at a water depth of 2,130m, the platform will produce through nine production wells and be interconnected to its injection wells.

Drainage of oil production will be carried out through lifting vessels, while routes of the pre-salt gas pipelines will drain the production of gas.

The production hub is capable of processing up to 150,000 barrels of oil and six million cubic metres of natural gas on a daily basis.

Lula North field is expected to reach a daily production capacity of one million barrels of oil this year. First commercial production at the field was achieved in October 2010.

Petrobras has a 65% stake in Lula field, while Shell Brasil Petróleo and Galp’s subsidiary Petrogal Brasil respectively own 25% and 10%.

Lula North was discovered in 2006 and accounts for 30% of Brazil’s oil and gas production.

Other platforms operating in the BM-S-11 block are FPSO Cidade de Angra dos Reis (Lula Pilot), FPSO Cidade de Paraty (Lula Nordeste Pilot), FPSO Cidade de Mangaratiba (Iracema Sul), FPSO Cidade de Itaguaí (Iracema Norte).

FPSO Cidade de Maricá (Lula Alto), FPSO Cidade de Saquarema (Lula Central), P-66 (Lula Sul) and P-69 (Lula Extremo Sul) also operate in the block.
