Petrofac has secured an engineering, procurement, construction and pre-commissioning and commissioning (EPCC) contract for new water treating facilities for North Caspian Operating Company (NCOC) in Kazakhstan in a joint venture with Kazakhstan firm Isker.

The approximately $135m contract is valid for a period of 30 months.

Under the EPCC contract, the JV will be responsible for an inlet stream screening to remove debris, feed water tanks with oil skimmer and pumps.

Work also includes a clarifier system, including flocculation, treated wastewater storage and pumps, as well as sludge treatment and associated utilities.

NCOC serves as the operator of the North Caspian project.

The project is claimed to be the first major offshore development in Kazakhstan.

In 2016, NCOC started oil production at the Kashagan field. Production at this field has now reached 380,000 barrels per day (bpd).

Petrofac Engineering and Production Services (EPS) East managing director Mani Rajapathy said: “Our portfolio continues to expand with this award, which demonstrates continued progress in our stated EPS strategy to grow the business through relatively small EPC contracts.

“This is a further award for Petrofac in Kazakhstan following our project management services contract with KPO and represents another important milestone as we focus on continued growth in-country and delivering EPC projects whilst working with local companies.”

In a trading update last month, the company said that it is on track to reduce expenses by $125m this year and up to $200m in 2021.

In May this year, Petrofac’s EPS division secured a further six-month contract extension with Basra Oil Company for its Iraq Crude Oil Export Expansion Project (ICOEEP).
