The Romanian government, through the National Agency for Mineral Resources (NAMR), has approved Black Sea Oil & Gas’s (BSOG) field development plan for the development of the Midia gas development project.

The Midia project comprises developments in the Ana and Doina natural gas fields and is the first offshore gas development project to be built in the Romanian Black Sea since 1989. The gross contingent resources of the fields are estimated to be 320 billion cubic feet.

The project consists of four platform wells at the Ana field and a subsea well at the Doina field, connected to a production platform in the Ana field by an 18km pipeline.

This platform is connected to the shore by a 126km gas pipeline, transporting gas to an onshore gas treatment plant (GTP) in the Corbu commune. The GTP has a capacity of 1 billion cubic metres per year, which represents 10% of Romania’s gas consumption.

BSOG is the operator of the project, with a 65% operating interest. Co-venture partners in the project include Petro Ventures (20%) and Gas Plus (15%).

The company announced its final investment decision for the Midia project in February 2019, when it was subject to approval from the NAMR. BSOG expect to complete the detailed engineering for the project, including construction at the GTP and the Ana platform, over 2019.
