TechnipFMC and Talos Energy have agreed to jointly develop technical and commercial solutions to carbon capture and storage (CCS) projects in the US Gulf Coast.

The long-term strategic alliance will aim to accelerate the implementation of offshore CCS with reliable systems while reducing the global carbon footprint.

The collaboration will combine TechnipFMC’s experience in subsea engineering, system integration and automation and control with Talos’s offshore operational and sub-surface expertise.

TechnipFMC said that the two firms will progress CCS opportunities through the full lifecycle of front-end engineering and design (FEED), storage site characterisation, and first injection through the life of the field.

TechnipFMC subsea president Jonathan Landes said: “This alliance capitalises on our collective expertise and TechnipFMC’s position as a system integrator and architect to deliver a reliable industrial-scale solution for CCS.”

TechnipFMC expects the alliance to further advance the leadership of the two companies in the emerging CCS market in the Gulf Coast.

Talos executive vice-president and head of operations Bob Abendschein said: “Combining the technical expertise of both companies solidifies our market leadership in delivering integrated CCS solutions to lower industrial carbon emissions and create a positive impact in the communities where we work and live.”

Earlier this year, Talos Energy has entered an exclusive joint venture framework with Storegga Geotechnologies to explore and develop CCS projects on the US Gulf Coast and Gulf of Mexico (GOM).

The partners agreed to source, evaluate, and develop potential CCS projects in areas, including state and federal waters offshore Louisiana, Texas, Mississippi, and Alabama.
