Norwegian survey service firm TGS has started the Eastern Delta Refocus 3D ocean bottom seismic (OBS) imaging programme in the US Gulf of Mexico (GoM).

This reprocessing project represents the next phase of imaging over the hydrocarbon producing assets in the Main Pass and Viosca Knoll areas.

TGS will enhance key subsurface structures by applying advanced imaging techniques.

It will also provide new insight into the deeper Mesozoic section prospectivity.

The company plans to reprocess an area of around 2,250km² to provide a high-quality regional product. This allows for the exploration and production (E&P) companies to fully explore the new plays in the area.

The project began in the first quarter of 2020 and will provide the final data in the fourth quarter.

TGS CEO Kristian Johansen said: “This project has been launched following increased client interest in the area, with recent leasing of acreage and exploration plans targeting the highly prolific Norphlet play.

“Combined with our vast library of well information and our trusted imaging solutions, we continue to provide customers with the most comprehensive subsurface insight in the Gulf of Mexico.”

According to the company, the project received industry funding.

In May, TGS and US oilfield services company Schlumberger announced a strategic collaboration for multi-client ocean-bottom node projects in the deepwater GoM.

TGM began a GoM Otos multibeam and seep study project in February 2017.
