Norwegian geoscience data company TGS has announced a new multi-client 3D seismic survey with geophysical services company Shearwater in the Campos Basin offshore Brazil.

The survey will cover approximately 11,200km2 within the permit area and is expected to last eight months. Shearwater will acquire the survey, using the Amazon Warrior vessel.

Shearwater CEO Irene Waage Basili said: “Shearwater and TGS have a long-established relationship and we are very pleased to develop this partnership further.

“Shearwater’s Amazon Warrior is equipped with industry-leading single-sensor Qmarine technology and will provide TGS and their clients with a powerful and effective platform for the survey, ideally suited to environmental conditions offshore Brazil.”

The survey will provide contiguous 3D coverage over the prospective Brazil Round 16 blocks in the outer Campos Basin. TGS will use full waveform inversion (FWI) velocity model building and reverse time migration (RTM) advanced imaging software to create accurate and high-resolution images of the pre-salt objectives.

TGS CEO Kristian Johansen said: “With our third multi-client programme in Brazil over the past year, the Campos 3D confirms TGS’s commitment to the country and solidifies the continued expansion of our high-quality and timely exploration products in the Brazilian Salt Basins.

“The project fits well with our strategy of increasing our footprint in the prolific basins in the South Atlantic region. Furthermore, the survey provides additional visibility to our guided multi-client investments for 2019, with more than $200m already committed.”

Fast-track seismic products will be available in summer 2019, with final products available in the second quarter (Q2) of 2020.
