Well-Safe Solutions has secured a new contract to decommission up to 21 wells on the Schooner and Ketch fields in the UK Continental Self (UKCS).

These wells, which include 20 platform wells and one subsea well, are operated by DNO North Sea (ROGB), a wholly owned subsidiary of DNO. The scope of the contract includes engineering work, contractor management and logistics. DNO will continue to retain the well operatorship post decommissioning.

Well-Safe Solutions chief executive Phil Milton said: “This is a fantastic achievement for Well-Safe, allowing us to build a continuous programme of work through campaign-based approach and realising the associated benefits.”

Situated in the UK Southern North Sea, the Schooner and Ketch fields terminated production in August 2018. The project work will start immediately, while offshore operations are slated to begin at the end of 2019. The campaign is expected to last nearly two years.

In April 2019, Well-Safe Solutions acquired a semi-submersible drilling unit from Diamond Offshore.

With the acquisition, the company announced an investment of around $100m on the drilling unit. It will upgrade the semi-submersible unit into a plug and abandonment (P&A) unit and will be rechristened as Well-Safe Guardian.

The scope of upgrades on the drilling unit will include installation of a dive system and the capability to deploy a subsea intervention lubricator (SIL).

Well-Safe Solutions now plans to make further investments to boost its fleet to include semi-submersibles, jack-up, mono-hull vessel and land-based P&A units.
