Aker Drilling has confirmed an order for two ultra-deepwater drillships from DSME for $600m.

The EPC contract includes project management, loose drilling equipment, spares and operation preparations.

The two vessels will be delivered to Aker in October this year and December 2013.

The drillships will be the largest and most capable ultra-deepwater units in the market, and will feature a double derrick for efficient parallel operations.

The systems will be able to operate in water depths of 12,000ft and drilling depths of 40,000ft.
