Shell, which is operator of the Pearl GTL plant, opened natural gas wells offshore to allow the first gas to flow into the GTL plant onshore through a subsea pipeline.
The plant was developed under a production and sharing agreement between Qatar Petroleum and Shell.
The Pearl GTL plant consists of two offshore platforms, located 60km off the coast of Qatar, connected by a pipeline to the GTL plant in Ras Laffan.
When fully operational, the Pearl GTL plant will produce 1.6 billion cubic feet of gas per day from the North field to generate 120,000 barrels per day of condensate and natural gas liquids, and 140,000 barrels per day of GTL products.
