KCA DEUTAG has won a tender for a new drilling contract from Statoil to provide drilling services at the Kvitebjorn gas and condensate field on the Norwegian Continental Shelf.

The two-year contract has an option for extention by two further periods of two years each.

Managed pressure drilling (MPD) technology must employed at the Kvitebjorn field to drill into a depleted reservoir at a depth of 4,000m with high temperatures and under high pressure.

KCA DEUTAG and Statoil have worked in close cooperation with each other to develop the MPD technology.
