Woodside has discovered 18m of new oil-bearing sands in its Laverda North-2 well, which has been drilled to 2,300m deep.
The Greater Laverda area is located in WA-36-R in Western Australia’s Exmouth sub-basin, about 10km west of the Woodside-operated Enfield oil project.
Wireline sampling showed that the new zone is expected to contain more than 20l of oil to the surface.
The well also intersected a gross interval of about 10m of oil-bearing sands in the Laverda oil field.
Continuing preliminary evaluation of the Greater Laverda area suggests that the region potentially contains a recoverable volume of more than 100 million barrels of oil.
