Lundin Norway has completed the drilling of sidetrack well 16 / 1-15A on the Tellus prospect, offshore Norway.

The well was drilled to a depth of 1,986m using the Bredford Dolphin semi-submersible drilling rig.

Lundin, which is operator of block PL338, drilled well 16 / 1-15A with the objective of further appraising the Tellus discovery.

The well confirmed a 50m oil column including a thin lower Cretaceous sandstone with excellent reservoir quality overlaying a fractured basement, the company said.

The Tellus discovery’s initial gross contingent resource range audited by Gaffney Cline and Associates is estimated at between 11 million and 55 million barrels of oil equivalent, of which approximately 90% is oil.

The Tellus discovery will be included in the Luno development programme.

Lundin holds a 50% interest in block PL338, with Wintershall Norge and RWE Dea Norge holding stakes of 30% and 20%, respectively.
