Jordan’s Natural Resources Authority (NRA) said that the government has extended the deadline for two oil and gas exploration blocks from 31 May to 2 July 2009.

The Northern Highlands block and Jafr and Central Jordan block will be developed under production sharing contracts in the event of commercial discovery.

The NRA has extended the closing date following a request from global oil and gas firms.

The Northern Highland block near the border with Syria covers 7,500sq km which connects the West Safawi block. The Jafr block is part of the oil and gas prospective regions in Jordan and connects the producing oil field at Azraq and the promising one in Sirhan.
