British company Premier Oil has commenced production from the first of two wells at its Shelley field in the UK.
Oil production from the second well is expected to begin by 8 August, the company said.
The Shelley field, in the Central North Sea, was acquired from Oilexco as part of its bankrupt UK subsidiary North Sea earlier this year.
The field, which contains 31-degree API oil, has been developed using two horizontal subsea production wells equipped with downhole electric submersible pumps.
The company has signed new contracts with a few suppliers including Sevan Marine to restart development at Shelley and plans to begin production soon, Premier said.
