London-based oil and gas operator Soco International has plugged and abandoned the exploration well Liyeke Marine-1 in Block Marine XI offshore Congo, Brazzaville, after the well failed to flow oil.

The well, which reached a total depth of 1,140m, hit a 62m heavy oil column, but the log and sample data signalled that the oil would not flow, according to project partner Lundin Petroleum.

The jack-up drilling rig Pride Cabinda is now preparing to move to the second well at a site about 1km from the field's discovery well.

Swedish independent Lundin holds a 18% interest in the licence.
