The UK’s House of Commons plans to conduct a debate on health and safety issues in the North Sea oil and gas industry.

The debate will address concerns including the North Sea helicopter crashes that took place in February and April 2009.

Aberdeen North MP Frank Doran, who is spearheading the talks, said that progress had been achieved since a key Health and Safety Executive (HSE) report was issued on installation safety, but that discussions were still required on safety in the North Sea.

He said that more action needs to be taken to maintain standards, especially given that the HSE recently issued cautions for complacency to operators in the North Sea.
