Statoil has announced that shipments of LNG from its Norwegian Snøhvit project have resumed since the planned maintenance shutdown last autumn.

Production from Snøhvit resumed one week before Christmas and LNG vessels are now back in regular operation.

The plant was closed for a four-month period for upgrading and maintenance, but its reopening was delayed by technical glitches to the facility's large electrical motors, which form a central part of the refrigeration process.

During peak production, an LNG tanker departs from Melkøya every five or six days transporting almost 150,000m³ of LNG to customers worldwide.
