Oil major BP will cut production at its 250,000bopd Thunder Horse platform in the Gulf of Mexico by half for a planned maintenance shutdown, an industry source said.

The shutdown, which is likely to last weeks, will cut BP's total annual production by about 10,000 barrels of oil and gas equivalent per day in 2010, the source told Reuters.

Thunder Horse produces up to 200 million cubic feet per day of natural gas.

The maintenance involves work to undersea manifolds.
