Shell has halted production of about 100,000 barrels of oil at its East Area field offshore Nigeria, which was temporarily shut down for repairs.

The company said the offshore field was shut down as a precaution to enable repairs to equipment connecting the FPSO facility Sea Eagle with the mooring platform.

The equipment was scheduled to be overhauled in May this year, but bad weather forced the schedule to be brought forward.
