Det Norske has discovered oil in Storklakken, Norway, close to the Frøy field in the Norwegian North Sea.

Drilling was completed at the exploration well 25 / 1-11 and a subsequent sidetrack (25 / 1-11 A) in the Storklakken prospect using the Aker Barents drilling rig.

Volumes are estimated between seven and 12 million barrels.

A 1m-long gas column has also been proven with good reservoir quality, the company said.

The discovery remains to be tested, but comprehensive data acquisition and sampling have been carried out.

Det Norske holds 100% ownership interest in production licence 460.
