Maritime Communications Partner (MCP) has secured a contract from Statoil to deploy its 4G-network on the Norwegian Continental Shelf (NCS).

The contract, which will initially run for six years, has an option to extend for a further four years.

The network will deliver high-speed connectivity to 34 Statoil rigs and several support vessels.

It covers 15 rigs, two light well intervention vessels, two subsea inspection and maintenance vessels, and 50 supply ships.

The agreement includes existing and new oilfields operated by Statoil. MCP said the deal opens up the potential expansion into the UK Continental Shelf and other areas of Statoil’s international operation.

MCP CEO Frode Støldal said: "A state of the art high speed 4G network will facilitate even more innovation and efficiency improvement in the oil and gas industry.
