French engineering firm Technip has secured a contract worth more than €500m to support the development of Lula Alto pre-salt field in Brazil.

Lula Alto is an ongoing development situated in the Santos basin, near Sapinhoa and Iracema, offshore Rio de Janeiro.

The contract with Tupi BV requires Technip to supply approximately 200km of flexible pipes and related equipment, including gas and water injection, lift, export and production lines.

Technip said the high technological flexible pipes will meet pre-salt challenges with water depths of 2,500m and high-pressures.

Tupi BV is a consortium of Petrobras Netherland, BG, and Galp.

"The challenging technical requirements confirm again the suitability of flexible pipes to pre-salt developments and Technip’s strong position in this domain."

Technip will undertake the project management and engineering at its operating centre in Rio de Janeiro, while flexible pipes will be produced at the company’s manufacturing sites of Vitoria and Açu, Brazil.

Technip president in Brazil Adriano Novitsky said: "Lula Alto is a major project for Technip in Brazil. The challenging technical requirements confirm again the suitability of flexible pipes to pre-salt developments and Technip’s strong position in this domain."

In November 2014, Petrobras unveiled plans to deploy a permanent 4D seismic monitoring system at the Lula field.
