GDF SUEZ Bonaparte has awarded pre-front end engineering and design contracts to Granherne and DORIS Engineering for the Bonaparte LNG project.

GDF SUEZ Bonaparte is the operator of the project, which is a floating liquefaction plant in the Bonaparte Basin in the Timor Sea, 250km west of the Australian city of Darwin.

The project is being developed by a joint venture of GDF SUEZ and Santos.

The LNG project will produce two million tonnes of LNG per year, using natural gas from the Petrel, Tern and Frigate fields.

GDF SUEZ Bonaparte general manager Jean-François Letellier said that Granherne and DORIS Engineering will aid in refining the concept to bring natural gas from stranded fields to the Asia Pacific market.

The final investment decision for the project is expected in 2014 and LNG production will begin in 2018.
