Dana Petroleum has completed work on the Cormoran-1 exploration well, which was drilled to a total depth of 4,695m below sea level and plugged and abandoned as a gas discovery.

Cormoran-1, which is located in block 7, offshore Mauritania, lies about 2km south of the Pelican-1 gas discovery well.

The well flowed 22-24 million cubic feet per day during a test of one of the four separate gas columns encountered during drilling.

The appraisal well was drilled using the Maersk Deliverer deepwater, semisubmersible drilling rig at a water depth of 1,630m.

Cormoran-1 was drilled to test the Cormoran prospect, also targeting the Petronia prospect, which lies below, and to provide appraisal information about the Pelican gas discovery.

Dana is the operator of the block, with a 36% interest. Its partners are EDF SUEZ Exploration, Tullow Petroleum Mauritania, PC Mauritania I and Roc Oil.
