Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE) has completed the acquisition of North Sea natural gas and infrastructure assets from Hess.

The $324m acquisition has helped the firm gain control over natural gas reserves of 300 billion cubic feet, along with other probable resources.

Gas production from these assets is expected to be around 200 million therms this year and could reach up to 300 million therms in 2012, subject to the phasing of development fields.

SSE Energy supply director Alistair Phillips-Davies said that the firm hopes to build its presence in the upstream gas sector in a careful, measured way.
