Anadarko Petroleum has discovered oil and gas at the Teak-1 exploration well in the West Cape Three Points Block, offshore Ghana.
The well was drilled to a total depth of 10,400ft in water depths of 2,850ft.
The Teak-1 well encountered a net total pay of 240ft of oil, condensate and natural gas in five separate Campanian and Turonian reservoirs.
Oil samples recovered from the Teak-1 well indicate oil of 40° API gravity in the Campanian reservoirs and 32° in the Turonian reservoirs.
Anadarko senior vice-president Bob Daniels said that the discovery will lead to the beginning of a multi-well exploration programme in the West Cape Three Points Block.
“The partnership plans to immediately drill the Teak-2 well, which will test the Campanian and Turonian reservoirs in a separate fault block between the Teak-1 discovery and the Jubilee field,” he said.
