Petroleo Brasileiro (Petrobas) subsidiary Petrobras Participaciones has acquired a 50% interest in the Ntsina Marin and Mbeli Marin blocks in Africa from Ophir Energy for an undisclosed sum.

The blocks are located in the Coastal Basin of Gabon, offshore the Gabonese Republic on the west coast of Africa, and will cover an area of 6,683km² in water depths of 2,400m.

The company will conduct a minimum programme, which includes 2,000km² of 3D seismic studies.

After completion of the seismic survey, Petrobas will decide whether to progress to the next phase of exploration, which includes drilling.
