Petroleo Brasileiro (Petrobras) has made two new oil and gas discoveries in the Espirito Santo basin in concession area BM-ES-23, in Brazil.

The company encountered the discoveries while drilling the BRSA-939-ESS and 1-BRSA-936D-ESS wells, also known as Pe-de-moleque and Quindim.

The two wells are located in water depths of 1,900m, and lie approximately 115km from the coast of Brazil.

Petrobras expects that production from the Espirito Santo basin will double to 50,000bpd by the end of this decade.

Petrobras is the operator of block ES-M-525 with a 65% interest, while Shell and Inpex hold 20% and 15%, respectively.
