E.ON Ruhrgas Norge has encountered a dry well in licence 416 in the North Sea following the completion of drilling operations.

Well 31 / 8-1 was drilled to a water depth of 2,598m using the Borgland Dolphin drilling facility.

Reservoir rocks were found at the Sognefjord formation, but the well was dry, while no petroleum was confirmed at the second target.

The company will now abandon the well and the rig will be moved to production licence 471 in the Norwegian Sea to drill wildcat well 6407 / 5-2 S.
