Lundin Petroleum has started drilling exploration well 16 / 2-8 on the Aldous Major South structure on licence PL265 in the Norwegian North Sea.

The well will be drilled to a water depth of 2,085m and is expected to take 45 days to complete.

The primary target of the well is sandstone of the Upper and Middle Jurassic age and the secondary targets are of the Cretaceous Shetland Chalk Group and the Triassic Skagerrak formation.

Licence PL265 is owned by Lundin Petroleum, which holds a 10% interest, operator Statoil Petroleum with 40% and Petoro and Det norske oljeselskap, which hold 30% and 20%, respectively.
